Whew! thank goodness we found another bakery to take care of our Sesame Ball (and other goodies) fix, considering our usual go-to bakery shut down. We happened to come across this bakery on the way to the subway. They carry all the usual bakery goods ranging from custards/tarts, buns/breads, cakes. Beverages include coffee, tea, soda, juice, all priced low ...except for the bottled water! There truly are so many items to choose from. The prices are great as well, roughly $2-5/item, cash only. We really only came here for the sesame balls. They were fresh, warm and so delicious...we came back the next day. There is seating available in the back, as well as an additional door. Customer service is non-existent. Ordering is a little confusing...is it at the window or the counter behind th

Tai Pan Bakery has been around for a long time, and it’s truly one of the best traditional Chinese-style bakeries around. The pastries are light, fluffy, and not overly sweet — just the way they should be. There’s an incredible variety to choose from, and everything tastes fresh and satisfying. They specialize in small tarts, slices of Swiss roll cake, and soft buns filled with red bean, roast pork, taro, cream, or salted egg yolk. Every item feels carefully made and delicious. It’s the kind of place you can’t help but come back to — classic, consistent, and full of authentic flavors.

• Generally good pastries. Some are just okay, but the fish sandwich, red bean bun, egg tarts, and mochis are must-tries. • Service and checkout can be a bit confusing and slow. I had to wait for my coffee, and it turns out they missed making it even after receiving the paper order. • Small dining area, so most customers opt for takeout.

My go-to bakery in Chinatown. It never disappoints. The prices are super affordable. I've been to quite a few bakeries in the neighborhood but I know that I can always rely on Taipan being so so fresh and consistently good. I absolutely love the taro bun, which is well filled with a good taro flavor and oh my goodness when it's fresh out of the oven, and love the pork floss bun which is perfectly balanced in the amount of pork floss. The breads are soft and pillowy making it very easy to eat a few too many buns all at once. I've sent myself into belly aches from fullness multiple times after eating 3 or 4 buns at one time with the initial intention of only eating 1 bun. This is a solid spot for egg tarts. The egg tart is one of my favorite egg tarts in chinatown (there is only one other b
