An absolute gem in Kent. The restaurant has a cozy, traditional Japanese atmosphere that immediately makes you feel relaxed and welcome. I had the 18-piece sushi platter, and every single piece was beautifully balanced and incredibly fresh. I also ordered an uni sushi on the side, and it was outstanding. The chef explained that it was Hokkaido uni, and the flavor was on another level—rich, clean, and naturally sweet. From now on, I think I’ll only be ordering Hokkaido uni. The chef was exceptionally kind and took the time to explain the dishes, which made the entire experience feel personal and special. Amazing food, warm hospitality, and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone who truly appreciates high-quality sushi.
Based on the reviews for this place I knew we would like it. But the experience exceeded ALL expectations. The sashimi was so delicious and fresh that it seemed like it was caught 10 minutes ago. We got one roll, the Urban, and the flavors were so amazingly balanced. The atmosphere of the restaurant was perfect. Because of the size of the restaurant and the very controlled reservations, we essentially had private dining. The chef was prompt and attentive to the perfect degree. We could enjoy our delicious meal without too many interruptions but he was there to ensure we had everything we wanted. We spent the latter half of our meal deciding which friends we would bring next time.
If you’re looking for a generic sushi spot, this isn't it. Sushi Kaunta is a total experience. Tucked away in a beautiful historic building, the vibe is incredibly intimate—the chef actually runs the entire place solo and only hosts one set of diners at a time, which makes the whole meal feel like a private event. We had the chef’s choice nigiri, along with the Geisha and Sashimi Maki rolls. Everything was super delicious, but the nigiri was the absolute star. The fish was like butter—so tender it practically melted. I loved how the chef used complex, interesting flavors that actually highlighted the fish rather than masking it. What really blew me away, though, was the service. The chef is so humble and friendly; he was happy to answer our questions and was very informative, yet he was
We love sashimi, and driven by our strong passion to find the best sushi spots. We visited Sushi Kaunta, where we met a sushi master unlike any we’ve seen in Seattle. We’ve tried almost all of the well-known sushi spots in the area, but it was truly surprising to find a place like this in Kent—like something straight out of a restaurant featured on Netflix’s solitary gourmet. As the chef poured us a sake, I noticed his hands, wrinkled from constant work in water, and even before tasting the sushi I could feel the level of dedication and effort he puts into his craft. I have no doubt that Sushi Kaunta will rise to the ranks of the very best in Seattle purely through its reputation. Wishing them continued success.
We drove all the way from Seattle to Kent to try Sushi Kaunta, and it was worth the trip. The chef prepares everything in advance, so you place your order when making the reservation. The sushi and chirashi don were outstanding, and the inari sushi with scalops was incredible. We wanted more. The chef made a couple of extra pieces made with seabass and another white fish, which were excellent. They offer some great mini sake bottles too. Keep in mind that you might not be able to add additional large dishes becauss the chef prepares exactly what has been ordered when making a reservation. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu.
