Suba's Restaurant

While staying in Mountain City to visit my great aunt over the mountain in Vilas, NC, we needed a good takeout spot for lunch one day. She recommended Suba’s, and since we were staying nearby, it was a perfect fit. We ordered three salads, each loaded with fresh veggies and perfectly grilled, seasoned chicken—simple, satisfying, and clearly made with care. We’d planned ahead with my aunt, so based on the reviews I saw here, I also made dinner reservations. Holy cow, what a treat! First off, the place is cozy and popular—definitely make a reservation. This place NEVER disappoints. We drive an hour just to have dinner here on special occasions. Those steak medallions with the crusted asparagus might just be the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. And don't even get me started on the desserts! Just wow! Great food, the staff treats us like friends, and we always leave happy. ❤️

One of the best places we have ever been! The people are very precious also. We drive 1 1/2 hrs one way to eat there once a year with friends. We also go there any time we are spending time in the mountains. We have never been disappointed with the food, and the desserts are out of this world!!!! I love the Steak or the Ribs. My wife is more adventure minded, and likes stuff like chicken piccotta. You won’t regret going here. Make a reservation.

We called Sunday morning right before 10am to see about getting a reservation for lunch. They were able to get us a reservation at 11:15! We drove from Bristol and this was our first time eating at Suba’s. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted right away and everyone had smiles on their faces. I got the crawfish cakes, a small side salad with homemade raspberry vinaigrette dressing and mashed potatoes. My husband got the country fried steak, mashed potatoes and a sweet potato. The country fried steak was so tender you could cut it with your fork no problem. My crawfish cakes were delicious! I was wanting to try something different and I’m glad I went with those! Everything was so so good! I got the bacon wrapped, crabbed stuffed trout with cheese and spinach casserole. Scrumptious. My husband ordered the ribeye and shrimp combo. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, had excellent flavor. It was delicious and those were the biggest, best flavored shrimp I have ever had. For dessert we had the cherry almond pound cake cheese cake and the makers mark bread pudding. By far the best desserts I have ever had. That bread pudding was out of this world! Ask for it warmed up, it makes allll the difference. Well worth the hour and 45 min drive!! You have to eat here!
