Steffen's Cedar Lodge

Steffens lodge (we stayed in the main lodge) was a reasonably priced place for our large family to stay for a week. Becky, the host was very kind, responsive and accommodating. They are in the process of updating the location. They just poured a new concrete pier.||||It’s nice that each couple (4) and their kids were able to have their own space. There is a large table for communal meals which made for a nice gathering place. We enjoyed a lot of time on the dock and doing water activities. It was nice too because it’s pet friendly.||||We were careful to keep food put away and things wiped up and we had no issues with rodents. Beautiful location and a great place to watch the sunrise. There is a firepit, swing and even a canoe for guest use. The rooms are a bit outdated, but they were clean. Pet friendly as well.

The building we stayed in looked like a run down hostel. The carpeted floors were heavily stained. The main kitchen floor was concrete with lots of the painted floor gone. The bathrooms were the only decent rooms. Hosts were no where to be seen. The front deck was concrete with pock marks through out. The outside door mats look like they have never been cleaned. The windows in the building were permanently stained. No visibility. The kitchen pots and pans were battered and basically unusable. Nothing matched. If u have fragrance issues, skip the bedding Goose and dog poop every where. Lake is not accessible for swimming. The grill was disgusting, covered with burnt char from previous cooks. The outdoor fire pit was unusable. No s'more kids. Sorry.

We stayed in Sturgeon. There were 7 of us adults. It's very rustic, nothing fancy, but if you're going to spend your time outdoors, you don't need anything more. Mattresses were not the comfiest would be the only "complaint"

I made a super last minute reservation here after deciding to stay overnight on the island at the very very end of the season. Many places were closed, and almost none take online reservations except Steffan's. I was a little apprehensive after reading the recent reviews, but The owners have clearly made a few changes. I stayed in the Otter room, and the mattress has been replaced with a very comfortable memory foam. An extra blanket would be a nice touch - there is just a light fleece blanket which was not quite warm enough for a chilly autumn evening. The kitchen unit is super cool - one of those one piece sink/stove/fridge combos from the 30s. The unit was spotless, and while the bathroom shower is tiny, it did get the job done.
