Smakowski's Deli

A family owned deli located on Rand Rd. in Palatine. Open 7 days a week offering hot and cold Polish foods to go. Their stuffed cabbage rolls were fantastic! They also do catering. They also have a nice deli and bakery section. Everything looked fresh and they were very busy on a Saturday afternoon.

Smakowski’s Deli offers a variety of Polish foods and delicatessens. Not only does it have a deli, they have a bakery section, cold veggie salads (ex. Cucumber salad), and other store items. I stopped in for a friend and she loves all of the options this Deli offers… especially their cucumber salad and perogi's. They staff were very nice and helpful. Will definitely stop in again.

Bought a large container of bigos. It had so much sugar in it, it was disgusting. We could not finish and went straight to the garbage can. Shame on a Polish store that is not cooking according to Polish guidelines. You may use plums to balance the taste or add cabbage so it is not too sour. Adding sugar is a lazy shortcut. Not healthy either. Shame on you!

Very nice store with a good assortment, but there is one big flaw, it is the saleswoman who works in the prepared food department. How to recognize her? She is not young and wears glasses. She does not hear the customer, is rude and intolerant. Last time when she served me, she said "Oh my God" at the end, but another customer her age came up and why was she very polite to her. I do not understand why this happens, whether it is racism or just a bad attitude towards people from a certain segment of the population, but I will not go to this store again. There are many other Polish stores in Chicago with polite salespeople.

Got my "ogorkowa soup" with the dates few days in advance before the expiration date. It smelled disgusting, when I opened it in the house onthe same day of purchase. Also the warm dinner I got chicken rolls with mushrooms and gravy. No one in the house liked it because it was not fresh with weird smell while heating it again in the stove.
