Sizemore’s Coastal Kitchen

Let me start with this: Sizemore’s is local family owned.. I’m also a local and Jacksonville Native.. Fletcher Middle and Stanton High School.. I’ve been here a long time! Im so thrilled these guys have nailed it.. from the building, the decor, the cleanliness (especially bathrooms), our absolute rockstar server Jack.. and THE FOOD!!! My husband loved the gumbo, I loved the sweet plantains, and we split the fresh catch which was Mahi. It was cornmeal battered and cooked to perfection. The grits and collards were perfect .. we thoroughly enjoyed it all and look forward to going back!

We enjoyed the outdoor seating.. hearing the waves of the ocean... we had Mitch's ( the bartender tonight) award winning Old Fashion.. which was delicious..fish basket with blackened flounder... and they allowed me to get 2 coleslaws instead of hushpuppies ( i am gluten free).. also we had the flounder special.. Seared with coconut curry sauce and jasmine rice... Joey was our server and he was attentive and engaging..

We ended up coming to this place more or less by accident. We originally wanted to sit by the ocean, but it was very windy, so we decided to come inside to warm up and grab a bite. The venue itself was quite cold inside as well. We ordered drinks and food, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. The food quality was, to put it mildly, unsatisfactory. What stood out in particular was the presentation: the dishes were garnished with microgreens that looked like they had been dead for days visibly wilted, with clear signs of spoilage. Using something like that on a plate is simply unacceptable. For a place where food is served in plastic containers and sauces come in disposable plastic cups, the prices feel unjustifiably high. This is a casual local food place with lots of seafood on the menu. It gets very busy after 6:30. The food is very good with generous portions. We had the cornmeal crusted catch of the day, crab cakes and Caesar salad. The Caesar used fresh lettuce and had an excellent dressing. The mains and sides were very good. There is a full bar. Service was a little slow but it was very busy. It was a little chilly and very foggy out. I'm sure the view is good, we just could not see it due to the fog.

Absolutely loved our experience here. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. Even the other patrons made the atmosphere feel friendly and relaxed. Our waiter, Cam, took amazing care of us from start to finish. He was attentive, personable, and made sure everything was perfect without us ever having to ask. It even started raining while we were there and we got a little wet, and without hesitation they discounted our food for the inconvenience which says a lot about how much they care about their guests. That level of service is rare. The food, service, and overall vibe were all top-tier. This will absolutely be a go-to spot for me every time I’m in Jacksonville Beach. Highly recommend!
