Getting a reservation at Semma in NYC is one of the hardest in the city, but after finally dining there, it’s easy to see why. Every dish felt thoughtful, bold, and deeply rooted in authentic South Indian flavors while still presented in a refined, elevated way. The lobster dish was one of the biggest highlights of the meal. The lobster was perfectly cooked and coated in a rich, creamy spiced sauce that had incredible depth and balance. It was indulgent, flavorful, and truly unforgettable. The dosa was beautifully crisp and golden, with that perfect fermented tang. Paired with the chutneys and accompaniments, it was simple yet executed flawlessly. The lamb curry completely stole the show. Served bone-in with a deeply aromatic gravy, the lamb was incredibly tender and packed with bold sp

Semma has been on my list forever, so I was thrilled when my partner managed to score a coveted reservation for my birthday dinner last night. We both love Indian food, and this was a total hit from start to finish. Service was lovely, and they gave us a great table for two tucked into a nice corner of the restaurant. Every dish was beautifully composed and had just the right amount of spice. We started with the mung beans, which were bright, spicy, and a perfect way to kick things off. That was followed by their signature dosa, which was incredible. I’ve had my share of dosas, and this one really stood out—paper thin, crispy, and full of flavor. Next came the rabbit leg, lobster curry, and lamb chops. Each dish was unique, but the lamb was probably my favorite of the night—so tender and s

Amazing food! Prices are very fair for a 1 Michelin star restaurant. Chef came out and greeted every table individually. Highly recommend the gunpowder dosa! Only downside is the difficulty in getting reservations/waiting time for bar seating. Highly recommend if you can snag a table!

Reservations required. Michelin star rated, high expectations. Did not disappoint, attentive wait staff, we tried quite a few dishes. Favorites were the dosa and the lamb chops. They were amazing. Presentation of food was delicious. Lamb was so tender and flavorful. We did pre order the crab, it get a little messy, but was delicious. Spice level was on the lower end for Indian food in my opinion, but was still delicious. From the appetizers to the desserts, recommend all of it.

Keeping it real, this place was just average, maybe 2/5 stars. Given its Michelin-starred status, I expected outstanding cuisine, but it failed to impress. If you're a Desi craving Indian food, this isn't the place. The innovative take on South Indian food was interesting, but lacked depth and story. It’s a decent place to try, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to make a reservation to have to eat here. Service was also on par with the theme of the place, which is meant to resemble that of a street side restaurant — loud and bustling.
