It’s the attention to details that really sold me on this place! Everything especially the fish is fresh, well cooked and super flavorful. HUGE portion, the owner is super nice and kinda look like my dad(? Lol) Love this place will def come back.. * When I saw the rice I knew this is gonna be good. It’s shinny and plump, the owner told me they only use the best jasmine rice from Thailand.
So my wife and I took a chance at this spot last minute and had never heard of or had sauerkraut fish before—and praise the Lord that we did, because it was the most pleasant of surprises. The staff was warm and welcoming, and helped us order and decide on all the add ons for their signature dish. We got the regular, which had no chili pepper icon on the menu, which we found out doesn't mean that it's not going to be spicy. It was still spicy, so keep that in mind of you have low spice tolerance! As a Filipino, the dish itself reminded me of sinigang, but a much better and more flavorful version. I definitely prefer this dish over it 1000%. It has that savory tanginess that paired well with the spiciness of the dish. It had a very homey feel and vibe to it. We shared the single serve comb
We were really impressed with the food. We ordered three dishes: the original spicy sauerkraut fish, the tomato sauerkraut fish, and the Chongqing dry pepper chicken. The original spicy version was definitely the star. The broth was bold, tangy, and spicy, with that deep, addictive flavor that comes from the pickled mustard greens. The fish itself was perfectly cooked and tender and silky, soaking up all the flavors of the soup. The tomato sauerkraut fish was lighter and not spicy. The tomato base gave it a nice sweetness that balanced beautifully with the sour pickled vegetables. It’s a great choice for anyone who prefers a milder but still flavorful dish. We also really enjoyed the Chongqing dry pepper chicken. It was crispy, spicy, and packed with the numbing peppercorns. It paired r
Very impressed with their sauerkraut fish. We’ve come here twice now, and I think this place has a really good balance of flavour and a decent amount of fish and toppings. The fish has very good texture as well. We have only tried the original spicy flavour (golden soup, I believe?) and it is tangy, spicy, and just really hits the spot for me. We got the combos each time, and the value is okay. While the main dish is really wonderful, the portions of the side dishes were quite small. I wish they were just a little bigger. Each time I felt like I left just barely full, so maybe order another dish if you are feeling extra hungry. This place is definitely pricier than some other sauerkraut fish places we’ve been to in NYC, but it is also our favourite so far.
I would recommend signature fish stew and the beef braised noodles. Each dish was very flavorful up and the side dishes with the fungus and the cucumbers. The chicken was incredible too, but please be cautious of the spice! I would definitely come back again!
