Riverhouse

My cousin and I spent two wonderful days here, while exploring the Maine and New Hampshire coastal towns (Portsmouth was our favourite with its historic buildings). Mark and Mathilde were our hosts at the Riverhouse and made us feel very welcome. But the highlight had to be Kit, their very friendly dog with a laid back personality.| We’re so glad that we didn’t book a place on the coast, where all the towns were very busy and bustling with tourists. Riverhouse was perfect for a few days up in Maine. My partner and I booked the guest room for a few nights, and Mark and Mathilde (and their beautiful Bernese mountain dogs!) made the stay unforgettable! If you're looking for a cozy retreat in someone else's gorgeous home, this is definitely the place. Mark's restaurant recommendations were sublime, and we had wonderful breakfast conversations with him before heading out for the day. Highly recommend!

A group of us decided that an overnight motorcycle trip to Maine was a much needed break from reality. Riverhouse is not an AirBnb or an Inn. While the food and service is outstanding, it’s not a place where you are pampered and spoiled in the conventional sense. You are pampered because Riverhouse is a home and it’s owners, Mark and Matilde, are welcoming you into their lives when you choose to stay there and they choose to have you. The rooms are beautiful and the views and property amazing. If they cater your meal, you won’t be disappointed. The beer, wine, coffee and the like are just what the doctor ordered after a long day. We have enjoyed staying at Riverhouse several times, both in the main house and in the barn. The rooms and bathrooms are beautiful, super clean and peaceful. Mark and Mathilde are fantastic hosts and have always been very helpful making recommendations and accommodating our needs. Enjoy your stay!

What a wonderful place Riverhouse is! Our only issue was that we only stayed one night - it wasn’t long enough! Next time we will stay for a few nights. The property is spectacular - quiet, serene and beautiful. We stayed in the room on the top floor of the barn - so cool! It has been beautifully designed and is a wonderful mix of wood, windows, rustic and modern. We loved having the screen door open to hear the sounds of the water and animals. The place was spotless too! In the morning,we had a great chat with the host for a while and provided delicious coffee. I think we enjoyed talking with the hosts as much as the stay itself! If we ever have the chance we will be back.....
