Restaurant 1796

Went for my BEarthday in January and then again the next month for my wedding anniversary/Valentine’s. The food is delicious. The drinks were superb. Everything about this place was 10/10. For my BEarthday, they brought out free bread pudding (best I’ve ever had) and ice cream. And for our anniversary, there was a card waiting on the table for us when we got there. I’m very critical of restaurant food. And this food is very good!!

The Myrtle’s OMG! There are very few words amazing enough to describe this place. Between the history and stories, the amazing grounds, and the atmosphere, this place would be worth the stop anyway. The food is stunning. We started with the fire baked bread. It is cooked on an open flame and it is incredible. Then we had the short rib and the red fish. The short rib was so flavorful and rich that it should be illegal. The grits and sauce complement it perfectly. The redfish was really good, but the crawfish risotto was good beyond words. I think it could be the best side I have ever tasted. The flavor was bold and the rice was perfectly cooked. This is officially my new favorite meal of all time. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Our reservation was at 7:00 p.m. We arrived ten minutes early to ensure we were prompt and on time. Despite that, we were made to wait until 7:10 before our table was ready. Upon sitting down, we promptly ordered drinks. I ordered a Dr Pepper and waited about ten minutes for it, even though I could see the soda fountain from where we were seated. We quickly ordered a beet salad and lettuce wraps as appetizers. We then waited another 35 minutes before they were served. When ordering my entrée, I chose the redfish and was informed that they were out of broccolini. That was fine — not the end of the world — but the replacement offered was carrots. Absolutely fabulous dinner!! Celebrated our 46th anniversary & had a wonderful time. Complimentary glass of champagne 🥂 to start it off was a treat! Food was amazing….🔥 Grilled oysters, Brussels sprouts. Fried Chicken Milanese, Hearth Steak. Bread Pudding OMG 😋 Staff was incredible 🙏❤️

We had dinner at Restaurant 1796 while staying at The Myrtles Plantation, and it was such a great experience. We sat at the bar by the fire, which ended up being one of my favorite parts of the night — getting to visit with the guys while they prepped and grilled made it feel warm and personal, not just a meal but an experience. The space itself is absolutely gorgeous, the service was fast and genuinely friendly, and everything we had — from the food to the cocktails — was delicious. It was the perfect way to end an evening at the Myrtles. Definitely recommend if you’re in St. Francisville. 🔥🍸
