Plaza Restaurant

Have eaten here for several decades while traveling through the area. I've always enjoyed their food and they also have excellent service. Yesterday, I stopped in the late afternoon and intended to get a vegetable plate, but the aroma of the food smelled so good I opted for one of the specials; baked chicken & rice. The chicken is baked with the skin on, but the meat is tender enough to easily remove from the skin. Sometimes, I eat the skin, and at other times, I don't. Also had some delicious turnip greens and a delectable beet salad. The special comes with either 2 sides or just a salad. I think their small cornbread muffins are just the right size to cut in half and spread butter on. Located on NC 66 between I-40 Business Route/ 421 and I-40.

I believe this restaurant must be better known for its lunches and dinners, and not its breakfasts. We had breakfast here this morning. Fried eggs were fried eggs, but the grits were undercooked and lukewarm. The bacon brand was overly salty too. The simple waffle was just a waffle, but the obviously pre-made (pre-cooked too?) sausage patties were a great disappointment in taste quality, were hard, and overly cooked/preheated or over-warmed too long. At the prices being charged here I would expect excellent quality food be served. Speaking of service...don't let the staff sit you near the kitchen entrance as the waitstaff takes no care in bussing the dishes and loudly tosses those dishes into the to-be-washed bin. We love dining here. A favorite place to stop and meet our extended family for dinner. The veggie plates are a big hit with our crew. The manicotti was great this visit

I am here in North Carolina helping with my mom, and this food is awesome. I eat several times when I come up. It's a must. Its my favorite place to eat. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. I love the way they treat my mom and truly care about people.
