Mumbai Katta

I’m not an Indian food expert, but everyone else at the table is — and we all agree: Mumbai Katta in Port Chester is the real deal. The chaat and small plates are fantastic, especially the puri and the vada. Crispy elements everywhere, with tamarind, moong, chutney, and sev bringing all the flavor. Simple, punchy, and such a fun way to dive into Maharashtrian street food.

We were looking for a place to eat while we were driving up to Mystic from Long Island and I am so glad we decided to make a stop at Mumbai Katta. This place is a gem, that serves authentic Maharashtrian style food in addition to Indian, Indo-Chinese dishes. For the first time when we visited it, we were observing a special fasting month, hence we couldn't try their non-vegetarian offerings. I tend to forget what we ate then , but I do remember everything was top notch. Owner/Chef Anita came out and spoke with us about her journey, her experience with Kolhapuri and Malvani food. We absolutely love ordering from the restaurant and so so regularly. The food is delicious, service is so friendly and the attention to detail on allergies and preferences is very thoughtful. Would recommend 100% In addition - we also order their tiffin service which is closer to a home cooked meal that they offer for weekly customers. They have a vast menu, reasonably prices and it saves us so much time and hassle by not having to cook. The food isn’t oily, it’s not overly spicy, it tastes very nice, feels light and is perfect for daily consumption. So glad they offer this option!

Great food. A little different from the usually Indian choices you usually find. Tried their batata vada, vada pav and fish fry. All were great. Want to try the fish curry next time
