Mount Airy Public Library

It is hard to figure out what times of day are quietest here. The new implementations are okay but you definitely can’t read a book here.

While the recent renovations have created a truly beautiful and modern library facility, a significant oversight is the lack of dedicated quiet study zones for students. The current noise level across the entire floor is disruptive, making sustained focus and deep work nearly impossible. I really hope in the future this library can implement clearly designated, noise-restricted areas to better support serious academic study.

This is one of the best hidden gems in Mount Airy. Great staff, always evolving programs and the new upgraded areas, make this one of the best reasons to call Mount Airy home.

I'm just astonished at the noise level at this library. By far the loudest people in the entire library were the librarians. Although just feet from one another, they spoke at a very loud volume as though they were standing across the room from each other at times they cackled raucously with one another. A women's crochet club occupied the designated "quiet area" of the library and carried on like it was a church social and could be heard throughout the entire library. Even with earplugs I could not escape the noise. I thought libraries were supposed to be quiet places to study. Do not go here if you need to concentrate or need a quiet environment. Shame on the librarians for being so disruptive.

This is a wonderful library and the staff is so sweet and helpful. They also have an amazing audiobook selection and I love the seed exchange. What a great idea. Update: Still a lovely library! And they still have the free book cart, which I love. I went today and they were selling baked goodies.
