Located on the 2nd floor above a bookshop, Miss Minerva’s sets the stage for afternoon tea with an old Hollywood Art Deco vibe. The menu reflects this with sandwiches and salads named for the likes of Bogart and Hepburn as well as afternoon tea options ranging from the Wonka Chocolate Tea to a classic afternoon tea and seasonal tea featuring soup and salad. We tried both the Wonka tea and the classic tea. The Wonka tea was a winner with its range of chocolate goodies, ranging from chocolate covered strawberries to a truly excellent slice of chocolate cake (that was also featured in the classic tea) right down to a solid chocolate spoon for stirring the chocolate flavored tea (you could also opt for hot chocolate instead of the tea). The classic tea was a bit more uneven, with the chicken s
This place was disappointing. I made a reservation online and had to get an approval before it confirmed the time. We showed up a couple minutes ahead of time and there were plenty of tables available. We stood at the door for 5 minutes and finally flagged the waitress. She didn’t even ask if we had a reservation and it looks like we didn’t even need one because it was empty at lunch time. We finally get a table and order but the waitress is overly friendly the entire time. She was up in everyone’s business. She insisted that the other tables go take a photo outside and she would go take it for you. It was awkward. Well we get our afternoon tea with all the sandwiches. The chicken salad is blah, then there was a piece of bread with 3 cucumbers on it and some hummus. The sandwiches were und
Wanted to check it out before spending a couple hundred. Wise decision. The decor/atmosphere is Horrific! Black/Dark walls for a traditional tea house? Gross. The place (upstairs on 2nd floor) looks like cheap stuff that was picked up from a garage sale or goodwill, not a carefully curated, thoughtful & pretty decor; (image Grandma's beautiful heirloom wedgewood china.) I've heard the owners are nice & that may be, but they need to realize putting their own spin on what they're marketing as a "tea room" is a mistake. Not everyone likes your style. For me is was giving depression energy lol. Harsh but no way we'd spend tea house prices there. The owners need to hire a designer who takes a cue from other VA tea houses. I regularly go to 2 in Richmond. So much fun! Remember atmosphere is
Much too expensive for not great service/ food. Small portions for high prices. We arrived a bit after 11am for the supposed walk in hours of 11-3pm the tea room was dark and not ready for serving. We waited a bit and then were seated. Our server didn't know what seasonal items they were offering. I got the chicken salad on mini croissants, came with a few grapes and piece of a pickle. It was good but, certainly not worth $15. The dessert plate wasn't good most things taste stale/old. The tea selection was good and would be the only thing I would try again still fairly expensive for a not great atmosphere. We were there a few hours and no one else came in the whole time.
Warm Service, Missed Potential I recently visited this teahouse for a special themed tea event and while the staff were absolutely wonderful—attentive, kind, and impressively accommodating when it came to my food allergies—the overall experience left a bit to be desired. Let’s start with the positives: the service was truly top-notch. The staff made every effort to ensure I felt safe and welcome, double-checking ingredients and making thoughtful substitutions where needed. In an era where food allergies are often brushed off or misunderstood, this level of care was deeply appreciated. Unfortunately, the ambiance didn’t match the warmth of the service. The space felt more like a generic hotel banquet room than a cozy, charming teahouse. It lacked the kind of decor and atmosphere that usu
