The food is absolutely amazing! I had the stew chicken and it is a must try if you are new to Jamaican food or have been enjoying the cuisine for years. This restaurant has the best side selection I’ve ever been offered, complete with rice and peas, cabbage, fried plantain and fried dumpling.
I’ve been eating here for years. Recently the name changed but I heard it’s the same people not sure. I love Tony. But I ordered yesterday at Melo’s and it’s different not the same as before not bad as in flavor. But I paid over 20$ for jerk chicken and it was mostly bones big bones no meat and barely any cabbage. Needless to say after paying for this I was still hungry. I kept trying to scrape the little bits of meat of the bones. Not sure I’ll be going back. It’s disappointing and hard to find good Jamaican food in New London. Definitely miss my boy from Broad Street.
The oxtails were rich, tender, and packed with deep, savory flavor-slow-cooked just right so the meat was perfectly seasoned and fell off the bone. The portion size was just right, leaving you full without feeling overwhelmed. The rice and peas is by far the best I’ve ever had . I’ve never had Rice n pease that good It was full of flavor with a texture that was absolutely on point-not mushy, not dry, just perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. The fried dumpling came out warm and soft with a subtle hint of sweetness that balanced the meal beautifully. The cabbage was fresh, vibrant, and flavorful, adding a nice lightness to the plate. Every element worked together, showing care in both seasoning and preparation. If you're looking for authentic Jamaican food this place is it! I’ll Definitely b
Update: The food here is excellent. The jerk chicken is absolutely amazing but if you can, order directly from the restaurant. Don't use doordash or any food delivery app. Tony's does a very poor job at interfacing with customers though the doordash app. They would run out of popular items but the doordash app would not reflect it and you'll end up not receiving what you order. The beef pattie and oxtail are just okay but that jerk chicken is the best I ever had ever, anywhere. Update: after trying other Caribbean/Jamaican restaurants through out the rest of my travels, I just wanted to come back and say Tony jerk chicken night be the best in the whole wide world. I was only here for a short while for school and I was ordering from Tony at least 2x a week. I would visit Connecticut just
This is the best I’ve had in a minute. Rice is banging. Jerk chicken delicious, warm fresh cocoa bread plantains perfect. Highly recommended….
