Megraw House

This home was a real treat to stay at. We will be staying there again. Beautiful, clean, comfortable. The location was easy to find, a quiet location and close to a good coffee shop. You are close to Central Methodist College and the town square. Last but not least sitting on the front porch in the rocking chair was right up my hubbies alley.

The house was beautiful, well kept, & tidy. The access codes are a nice feature, allowing guests their freedom & privacy. The room was clean, nicely appointed, and spacious. The bedding & linens were fantastic, the pillows & mattress very comfortable... Now for the "negatives"; Upon arrival, there were no hosts to be found. No problem. There was a note on the door & I had my code. I gave myselft the tour, but sadly, didn't get any history. A nice little "snack bar" was set out in the dining room, with bottled water & a Keurig. Shortly after my arrival, the house lost power due to a storm. Normally, not an issue, however with the hosts being absent, I was unsure of "emergency" plans, so it was a touch unsettling. I was truly amazed at the Bed and Breakfast and it's architectural history. It had the original hardwood flooring, the original spiral staircase, and was very tastefully decorated. The room sizes were large and very accomodating. The bed was to die for! You have a choice of pillows; hard, soft, or both. It's within walking distance to their historic downtown area and across the street from Central Methodist Univ. ||||If you want comfort, quiet, history and service, this is your place! I'm going back as soon as I can!!!

In Fayette, home of Central Methodist University, there aren't a great many choices of places to stay. I would imagine many guests stay in Booneville or Columbia, where there are more choices. We found that completely unnecessary. We were so glad we found the Megraw House, only a block from CMU.||The house has served as a home, a fraternity house, and a boarding house before being purchased by Jim and Mary Lay. The Lay's have done a wonderful job of making this old house into a beautiful, homey, and comfortable place to spend a night or a week. ||There are four rooms, each outfitted a little differently. Thanks to our not pre-planning at all, we got extremely lucky when Megraw House had a cancellation the night of my 35th anniversary college Homecoming event. Located just a block away from the campus, the room was modernized with wi-fi and plenty of outlets, but still retained the charm of a historic Fayette home. But best of all, it had great proprietors who went above and beyond for us: extending their normal breakfast hours to accommodate a medication schedule, being generous with check-out time to accommodate our event schedule, and even finding a work identification badge we accidentally left and offering to mail it back to us. The delicious weekend breakfast included farm-fresh eggs, fruit, sausage, pastries . . . excellent. Highly recommended! (Because it was the only room available
