McHenry Public Library District

This is my favorite library to go to in the county. I come here to study for my masters program. It’s nice and quiet. They offer study rooms, but I don’t use them because the lights are too bright for me in there. They have a great selection of books. If you don’t find one, you can always ask for them to look it up at other locations! Also, every librarian here is just so sweet. They are very patient people, which I appreciate because it takes time for me to process things. They also keep the temperature perfect during winter and summer. It’s also not always super busy, so it makes it much easier to study and get work done.

Library is small and one big open room. There is no separate kids area, other than a room with a few toys. But if you are looking for books with your kid, they’re in the same open space with adults trying to study/work. Selection is okay. I can generally find what I need. The reason for the low rating is based on my recent experience where I was charged for damage to a Halloween children’s book when it was already like that when I checked it out. (Board book, cover was peeled off partially) I had no way to prove other than a video I happened to take while reading it to my son. After fighting tooth and nail, I had the charges dropped but it was stressful. I was told it was an oversight. I asked if I needed to inspect every book before checking out and was told “no, that would be unreasonabl

I absolutely Love this Library! Everyone is helpful, kind, and patient! The staff goes above and beyond to assist with questions, concerns.

Seems like a great library! First visit here and it was lovely. There is a nice little play room for small children (a little chilly 68° in there). The rest of the library is one big area, divided into sections with bookshelves and seating arrangements. The bathrooms were clean and in working order. If you dont get a parking spot up front you have to park around the side and the walk can be a little long if they are busy. Look forward to visiting again.

I just don't get to the library enough but absolutely love it when I do! Their meeting room is excellent and staff is very attentive in setting things up and guiding guests to the proper location. Their book / music displays were set up with the most current trends available.
