The ice cream machine at McDonald’s - Cape Charles isn’t “broken.” It’s a permanent exhibit. A museum installation titled The Audacity. At this point, it’s less of a machine and more of a stainless steel prop whose sole purpose is to mock customers. It stands there every day, shiny and useless, pretending it has a function. How does this location consistently turn the most basic fast-food item on the planet into a mythical creature? It’s not artisanal gelato. It’s not handcrafted sorbet infused with rare ingredients. It’s soft serve. Milk. Sugar. A button. And yet somehow — magically — it’s “down.” Always. Not occasionally. Not during rush hour. Just… eternally unavailable. If reliability were a class, this machine would have dropped out years ago.

Stopped off while on a road trip for something quick. Ordered at the kiosk inside and ate at he facility in a dining room booth. Interior of restaurant was fairly modern for a McDonald's, without noticeable wear and tear as seen in some other locations. Drinks station showcased some trash and spills, but no worse than I've come to expect from other McDonald's. Ordered for two. My partner got the $6 burger combo, and I ordered a double quarter pounder (using a 40% off app coupon) and the buy one, get one McChicken sandwiches (2 total). I entered both as custom orders entered directly into the kiosk - extra mayo and pickles for me, she hates mayo/insists on extra onions - then went to grab a seat. Tables in dining area were dirty/sticky with visible spills of both the wet and dry varieties.

The food was the usual mc Donald’s food and tasted the same if not even a little better. The drive thru was broken so we had to drive up to the window but everything worked out in the end. The cashier was very helpful and the food came fast.

Someone posted seven months ago about the staff being unfriendly and the women’s restroom smelling bad. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. We visited on January 29th and ordered through the kiosk, so there wasn’t any interaction until I went to the counter to pick up our drinks. I double‑checked that they were mine, and although the employee confirmed, there was barely any eye contact, no smile, and no sense of welcome. When our food was brought to the table, the tray was simply set down without a word. I said “thank you,” but she walked away without acknowledging it and didn’t even remove the table number. When we arrived at this location the trash overflowing at the main door to enter was disgusting. The trash must have over flowed to the inside cause the floors were disguiting and every table was sticky and dirty. We stopped to use the restroom and get dinner. My wife and kids went into the women's restroom and I went into the mens. The mens restroom looked like a explosion went off inside with what I assume was urine all over the floors. The sink area looked like an area I would not touch to clean my hands. We did not have many options and I could see the workers making the food so we went ahead and ordered at the kiosk. 30 minutes later of watching the staff goof off, make tic toks on there phones, flip each other off.
