Matsuba Izakaya

Ordered through DoorDash during the blizzard. They were open the night before. Food was flavorful and huge servings. Came in on time, got our order correct and they were still warm. I recommend their ramen and onigiri.

Great food, appetizers and yakitori were a great combination going back and forth between great hot and cool food. I ordered the chicken skin yakitori, chicken karaage, and the waitress suggested the black caterpillar maki. If I lived here this would be an instant craving spot as I do want to try out everything in their menu.

Who prepared the menu for you? Do you have access to the text with the descriptions? Regarding the food: the soup is so diluted that you end up eating water with seaweed. The noodle soup is okay, but it’s quite ordinary. The rolls are heavily coated in mayonnaise, and nothing can ruin them…

Matsuba Izakaya was underwhelming, to say the least. We (4) made a reservation for this place on a Friday night (7:30) after seeing the glowing reviews and we left very disappointed just because of the service. The food was actually good, but the service was atrocious. First off, we never got our drinks, which were simple diet cokes and a Japanese soda. Second, two of the 5 dishes we ordered came out wrongly. Our server (young man with glasses) barely stopped by our table to make sure we were okay and we ended up having to call another server (long-haired lady) for what we needed. We brought a cake to this establishment because it was my birthday and we were told it was okay, in fact they offered to put my cake in the fridge, but quickly after we finished our food and our dirty plates were

Passable izakaya. The sushi rolls were missing avocado when they mentioned it should contain it. The sake karma collar bone was very raw still. The ramen was just eh. Not the type of noodles you usually get from say kyuramen, but at least portions were large for it with decent flavor. The geso karaage was very burnt and chewy. Overall, the redeeming quality was the chicken skin and thigh skewers and relatively cheap sushi rolls and food. Otherwise, I would pass this place, unless you want a fix for skewers and some ok sushi rolls.
