This spot is a bit of a hole in the wall. It's cozy but elegant. One thing to note, is it's definitely Korean forward cuisine vs. Japanese which does contribute to the overall flavor profiles. We got the 5 hand roll set along with the scallop crudo and Janchi Guksu. For the handrolls the fatty tuna was a favorite, while the shrimp was a miss. It was like a cold shrimp salad. The scallop crudo was delicious, and the Janchi Guksu was a little too fishy for my taste. Overall this place is worth giving a try, but I think I may personally stick to Japanese handrolls.
Hand roll shop in midtown with bar-style dining. I had the vegetarian rolls and to be honest they were alright. Regardless of quantity (portion sizes), the taste just wasn’t worth it for the price. I didn’t see the appeal of it, especially for vegetarians (you might enjoy the fish more).
Couldn’t even take a photo of the hand roll because I was too busy eating, haha! The tuna and grapefruit salad was super fresh, and the Scallop Crudo with mushrooms and scallop was even better thanks to the truffle oil. The oysters were really fresh too. They even suggested the perfect drinks to go with each dish—everything was just so delicious!
Great service. We ordered the salad, oysters, and scallop crudo to start, along with the signature handroll set. The scallop crudo had nice flavors, but the sauce was a bit overpowering, so the scallops themselves were hard to taste. For the handrolls, my favorites were the confit spicy tuna, fatty tuna, and yellowtail.
Ambiance (3/5): The establishment is very small with about 15 seats that face the chefs while they prepare the sushi. It's bright and low volume that you can hear each other. The space definitely feels a bit cramped. The stools were the worst part of the experience because there's no backing so I felt just uncomfortable the whole time. Service (5/5): We were seated immediately with our reservation time. We were attended to the whole meal and have no complaints. Hand rolls all tasted great. The salmon threw me off because I think there was a mayo-base in there but nevertheless still tastes great if you like mayo. Big fan of the fatty tuna and the waiyu. Did not really care for the yellowtail. Next time I'd like to try their other dishes for variety.
