Lost Colony Tavern

Food was above par- the pork knuckle was tender and smokey, delicious. It's a small dining room, so it was loud and hard to have a conversation. The service was attentive at first, then we were forgotten about. Glad we did stop in, and the town is super adorable.

We got the shepherd’s pie and it was AMAZING! We could not get enough - the lamb was absolutely perfect. The vibes were immaculate - we were so impressed and could not get enough of the food. We should have gotten a picture before we dug in but we forgot 🤷‍♀️ not picture perfect but insanely delicious. Like ancestral memories of family in England delicious. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amazing food, and local beer. The atmosphere was great, all the decor blends together very well with the music playing. The staff is incredible and very quick and attentive.

Went here twice. My wife (now) and I were in town getting married on 3/5. First on 3/3/2026. Food was good service was decent. Smallish indoor eating area, but not bad. Had the bangers and mash and a dark and stormy. Sausage was a bit overcooked, mash was really good. Second time was on 3/6/2026 around 1pm or so. Lady behind the bar said to seat ourselves and that was the ONLY interaction we had with any staff there. Other people came in after us were waited on and checked in with multiple times. The guy who was taking orders from the people who entered 5 minutes after us made eye contact with us a handful of times before we had enough time being ignored and walked out. Got the "you're not from around here and not welcome" vibes.

During our recent visit to The Lost Colony Restaurant in Mateo, my wife and kids sought refuge from the summer heat and enjoyed a delightful lunch. We started with a Bavarian pretzel accompanied by beer cheese, which set the tone for a fantastic meal. The themed cheeseburgers we ordered were a hit, while the kids relished their choices of bangers and mash, grilled cheese, and a kids burger. I opted for the Irish Whiskey Burger, topped with signature bacon jam and Guinness beer cheese, and I can confidently say it was the best burger I've had in a long time. The service was exceptional; our waitress was incredibly accommodating, even providing a highchair for our youngest. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience filled with delicious food and attentive service.
