We sat at the bar with server and bartender, Austin. He made our entire experience truly outstanding. Beautiful restaurant with beautiful people working there. Everyone was courteous, kind and friendly. The food was exceptional, especially the chestnut bisque, I would come in for by itself. I ordered the catch of the day, which came with mussels. After a past experience with having a bad mussel at another restaurant, I was both leery and reluctant to try them. The beautiful server with dark hair and glasses reassured me, they were fresh and I would not have any problems. She was correct, the dish with rockfish was outstanding. Now, back to Austin. He was such a great guy, funny, engaging, and absolutely everything. I highly recommend L’Opossum and make your reservation for the bar. You’ll
Celebrated first anniversary with my bf here. Food was delicious. The chestnut soup was out of this world. The entrees were delicious, the coq au vin and the lamb belly were just so moist and fell apart so easily. The koign aman was the perfect desert to end the dinner.
When they say this is a Richmond restaurant, they really mean it. From the location to the art to the service, everything was so speakeasy, eclectic, Richmond city that it should be THE restaurant to visit if you're looking for a local experience (provided its in your price range). The food is expensive, but so worth the price. The beef wellington was my favorite, but the pineapple rum dessert was also really good.
People highly recommended L’Opossum as one of the best, if not the best, restaurant in Richmond. I guess I was lucky to get a reservation from one day to the other at the bar, since I understand you usually have to book far in advance. First impression: great vibes, extravagant decor, friendly staff, good music. Ordered a cocktail, appetizer, glass of wine, entree and dessert. Meal was definitely GREAT, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think it was worth the $150 I paid (not including tip). I had a great time, but feel some disonance… maybe you’re paying for the name and the vibe, but I feel a $58 file mignon needs to blow your mind and not feel like an expensive beef over veggies. I believe I will come back and try other things in the menu, but my expectations will be a bit more moderate.
I had such a great experience at L’ Opossum. The decor is fun and eclectic, the music creates a unique upbeat atmosphere, the service was great, and the food was outstanding! It’s my new favorite restaurant in Richmond, Va. This restaurant is worth spending your time and money. Make sure you have a reservation, it’s very popular.
