Kuba Kuba

My first time to Kuba Kuba after hearing about it months ago. Went in for brunch and started with the Cortadito (espresso and milk) then ordered the huevos rancheros. I really enjoyed the Cuban take on this classic. The bread was noticeably wonderful, eggs cooked perfectly. Everything about the dish was fresh, hot and so tasty! Certainly a fair serving! That bowl / dish is deceiving deep (in a great way)! Wait staff were pleasant, attentive and the food quickly and thoughtfully prepared / served. Loved the atmosphere, music and decor. Throughout the meal we talked about our plans to return for lunch or dinner and continually referenced wonderful specials and huge menu. I’m so looking forward to it! I strongly recommend Kuba Kuba.

Wonderful restaurant. In a great neighborhood. The food smelled great before it headed to the table and it did not disappoint when it got to the table. Fabulous! The Service wonderful, east going and perfect date night evening. Can not say enough good things about this place. Even the music was on point.

Authentic cuban food that tastes delicious! We go there often! I love the Lunch roasted pork special! It is scrumptious and they have a Rana sauce that adds just the right amount of spice to the dish! The cuban music and decor adds to the dining experience. The wait staff is on the ball! They know when you need them and when to not hover! Great to go on a date night or with a party of up to 6 or 8 people! Manny, the owner, if he is there, adds to the wonderful atmosphere! It’s a MUST if you are visiting Richmond! If you live here and haven’t been to Kuba Kuba… then you are really missing out!

The inside of the restaurant is straight out of Cuba, with the brightly painted walls and murals. Great music. The staff are all attentive but mostly seem content to stand to the side and chat. I ordered the Empanadillas (not shown), with spinach and ricotta, which were absolutely fantastic. Then the Sloppy José— the meat was a little dry and flavorless, not much cheese— otherwise good. The Tres Leches cake was great but too sweet for me.

Only reason for a 4 on atmosphere is this is a really local/student eats, so don’t expect anything fancy on the inside. But, we’ve eaten at Kuba Kuba before and know that local eats are usually the best. This time, it was for breakfast. As always, the food is excellent, the prices fair, and service very good. The photo is of an omelet… a large breakfast, for sure. Parking can be tricky because Kuba Kuba is located just off VCU campus and apartment/house parking is at a premium. This is a great place to eat if you want wonderful food that’s not microwaved and has a touch of a different culture.
