Key Biscayne branch is part of the Miami-Dade Public Library System. This branch is beautiful. Tropical landscape leading toward quiet library. Free parking available. Nice areas inside or outside to study.
I love the library. The librarians are helpful and friendly; if not in stock, books can ordered easily -- it takes time to get some but that's a funding issue for the library system; copying and scan from the computer is free up to a certain limit; the magazine selection is current; and, there are programs for both young and old. It can get noisy in the afternoon with many tutors taking over the tables after school, but I'm not sure there is much that the librarians can do since it is a public space.
Insanely loud, literally can't study at all. Staff chats insanely loud around the library and the kids are soooo loud. Literally like a park in there. Super disappointing for KB residents who actually need a place to study since it's the only library we even have.
I visited the library, hoping for a quiet place to read and study, but it turned out to be anything but. The noise level was incredibly frustrating, with toddlers running around and screaming, making it impossible to focus. Surprisingly, the loudest people in the library weren’t the kids but the adults who were supposed to be supervising them, and even the librarians. The librarians seemed more interested in chatting with each other or other adults than keeping the noise down, which was really disappointing. This is supposed to be a library—a place for quiet, not a playground or a social hangout. It’s no wonder fewer adults seem to go there anymore. A library should be a sanctuary for reading and studying, not a place where you have to compete with shouting and phone calls.
My issue is not with the Library itself or most of the Staff, seeing as most are volunteers. My issue is with the current "Manager" of the Library and her attitude towards people she views as less valuable than herself, as well as, her trying to enforce rules and laws that are non existent according to state laws or "The Village Charter" and "Library Bill of Rights" to the point that she has blatantly lied to Library users as well as Law Enforcement Agents of Key Biscayne.
