Kansas City, Kansas Public Library Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library

I just moved to Kansas City this summer and I've been wanting to find a library for my toddler and me to use, so I just went to this library today and I think it's the best library I've ever been to! It's definitely not huge, but that doesn't matter to me because everything that they have to offer is amazing. A good bit of toys and things for my toddler to do and so many random educational things! I'm not against learning online, but I appreciate this library doesn't have computers like most do. Lots of hands on crafting and learning. And most of the books I saw were nature based books such as forerging, animals, gardening, dinosaurs, plants, science, environmental subjects, history, etc. This is the place to go if you're homeschooling or just looking for educational and nature related boo

Super fun place to take kids. The entire floor is dedicated to learning about science and animals. Several live animals to look and and hands on education opportunities. Cool trail overlook of the lake too.

Very cool library of natural history. Books are focused more on nature, animals, plants, and science. A small, quiet library that encourages children to interact with nature and explore. There are fossils, skeletons, rocks, pelts, shells, and skat for children to hold and touch and feel. They have many animals from snakes and spiders to frogs and turtles that people can observe. There are puzzles and blocks for children to play with, craft tables set up around the room, a puppet show set up for kids to enjoy and stuffed creatures from around the area. It is a sweet library with a view of the lake in a scenic setting. They even have a "seed library" where you can take home seeds to plant in your own garden and bring back the remaining seeds so others can enjoy the flora of the Wyandotte Cou

I love bringing my little boy here for playtime and books. The staff is incredible, the programs are educational, fun, and usually free of charge, and there are tons of opportunities for outdoor recreation in the immediate area. It's unlike any other public library you'll ever go to. When you walk out the door and go toward the lake, you will be surrounded by so much nature, you'll forget you're in Kansas City for a moment.

Took part in the Persimmon Walk last night- what a wonderful gift this place is! I immediately had dreams of sitting on the deck, listening to a new favorite book, and crocheting a fall blanket. Idyllic!
