My favorite sushi spot in town. Sean and his wife are incredible humans and are making the best sushi in town. All of their dishes are made with care, love and intention. I won’t go anywhere else in town. Remember that it is BYOB. You can’t go wrong with any of the menu choices. But the omakase is truly something special

If you live in Charleston long enough, you know that good sushi is hard to come by. There is no better place for sushi in the Charleston area. I have been dining at and ordering sushi (pick-up) from Kanpai regularly for five years now. I am only sharing this secret as I am leaving the area and no longer need to gatekeep this wonder of the area. Here are the simple rule to enjoy the best experience in my opinion: For dine in, go early on weekend or any time tuesday or wednesday evening, order from your table via QR code (it is typically run by the chef and his wife, so BE KIND), bring a bottle of wine (from Monarch duh), enjoy edamame and many many sushi rolls, they will bring them as they are ready. For take out, send a text with your name and order as soon as early as you can, it usually

I’ve been to many sushi restaurants in Mt. Pleasant but Kanpai exceeds all expectations. The nigiri brings me back to my time in Japan. The Chef is extremely talented and friendly. I went for my 25th birthday last week and my fiancé and I are going again tonight for Valentines. We just can’t wait to have more.

Had an excellent experience at Kanpai Kanpai Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar. The sushi was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. You can really taste the quality of the fish, and the rolls were creative without being overdone. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere made it a great spot to relax and enjoy the meal. Definitely one of my favorite places for sushi in the area — highly recommend!
