Independence Public Library

I'm very grateful this town has a library that has been in operation for more than 100 years. It is wonderful that it has such a historic building. Like all modern libraries, it does offer free Wi-Fi service and air conditioning. However, there are a few negatives. Due to the volunteer nature of the staffing, it is very difficult for them to have summer and weekend hours. In fact, they're quite a few Saturdays the doors are locked the General Public. Also, there is the negative of the "kansas room", being closed, except by appointment only. This room contains specifics about the town of Independence and Montgomery County. Including the "settlers journals", a set of documents referring to the seven family wagon train from hence, the majority of the more established families in the town dra

I visit the library from time to time. The staff are helpful and friendly. The library is very well decorated and organized. They have very comfortable sitting areas they also have a, nice small sitting area outside.

I am very disappointed with the library. I use to love this place. Everyone use to be helpful and friendly, but one staff I see in there all the time, is very rude and huffs when you ask her for help. I have also notice how a dirty it is with a cat in there. Very unprofessional. With all the great things happening downtown with Penn street and Indy Main Street, this library needs a lot of work or personnel.
