Hurricane Hanks

Hurricane Hanks is a favorite with locals and visitors alike. It sits in a small strip mall on Holmes Beach and is easy to find. They serve soups, salads, sandwiches, appetizers and entrees in a friendly bar-like atmosphere. We stopped for lunch and I ordered a grouper Reuben ($28). I had my doubts about replacing the corned beef with a piece of fish but the combination tasted just fine. It came with fries which were done just right. We also had their soup and 1/2 sandwich combo ($14) and chose the clam chowder and California club. Both were very good. Portions are generous and Shannon our server was cheerful and efficient. We checked out this dope joint this afternoon. Her wedge salad was definitely on point. My fish and shrimp were totally solid. But it was the crab cake dish that was straight bussin'....I'd seriously consider breaking the law for more.

Very casual place with a better menu than you'd expect. The location and sign made me think it was just a bar but they have a full menu and it's not all sandwiches and fried stuff. I had the Grouper piccata and my husband had the maple orange salmon. The Grouper was plentiful, the potatoes were good and the green beans were fresh with a little crisp to them...perfectly done. My husband raved about the maple orange salmon. He absolutely loved it. The service was good and the drinks also good. The atmosphere was casual. All around good and definitely a place that seems to fly under the radar... It's really good though, try it.

We made a return visit to check out their scallops. On our last lunch there, we shared a basket with the table and loved the scallops. This time they were not so great--underdone which is sort of scary with a scallop. The shrimp tasted less fresh this time too. An off day, perhaps. Their grouper sandwiches are great. We have never been disappointed with those. So will stick with those in future. Basically a great spot.

As a family of 5 on holiday we stopped in for a late lunch after going on the dolphin boat tour. No wait for a table, great service, and the food was excellent and plentiful. My son had the California Club sandwich which turned out to be a bit too big for a 9 year old, but they were happy to provide a container for him to take it home and eat later.
