Excellent dining establishment with tons of character. Good menu with lots of chef’s specials which keeps their menu fresh. Their old fashioned are excellent!

Nestled just 20 miles from New York City at the corner of East Franklin Turnpike and Sheridan Avenue, it housed members of the area’s founding family: the Zabriskies. The structure is believed to have been built in the 1790s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the Ho-Ho-Kus (an abbreviation of a tribal term for “red cedar”) Inn & Tavern builds on its rich history, focusing on making it more casual. Modern infrastructure and amenities were interwoven through the establishment to comply with historical regulations. My partner, our friends, and I decided to have dinner last night as first-timers. Reservation was easily made via OpenTable for 5. Upon entering this spot for local and farm-fresh dining, we were greeted by the staff at the host station inside a cozy,

We had dinner at the Ho Ho Kus Inn for Thanksgiving and it was Horrible. Dinner was $75 for 3 Course Price Fixe menu. Every part of the meal was terrible except for the roll. The Soup was supposed to be butternut squash but was completely flavorless and was thick and gloppy and was served cold, not even the slightest bit warm, second course we ordered Brie in puff pastry with peaches, there wasn’t a single peach on the plate, it too was flavorless, it was also served ice cold with a smear of what tasted like plain pumpkin from a can with absolutely no seasoning, it was inedible and the piece of Brie that was inside the pastry was the size of a sugar cube, I’ve never had Brie in puff pastry that I didn’t enjoy until today, for dinner we ordered the Turkey and were served 2 nice size pieces

The Mojo de Ajo Shrimp appetizer was excellent—light, mildly sauced, and didn’t overpower the nicely grilled shrimp. We’d bump up the spice a bit for our taste, but it was still a standout. The Fish Taco was just okay. The grilled mahi mahi got buried under too much coleslaw and pickled yellow peppers. The acid from the pickling overwhelmed the fish, which deserved more of a spotlight. The Fried Chicken Sandwich hit the mark—well-balanced with a touch of heat. The bacon and prosciutto were smart additions that deepened the flavor. The beer list was limited, but the highlight of the visit was the service. Danny, our server, was fantastic—personable, attentive, and offered great recommendations.
