Harvard Cabin

This place is a classic in NH mountaineering lore. It is convenient, dry, there is a cooking stove and heating stove in the evenings. A bucket of stream water is available for heating up. There is a solar powered light on the main floor that is used sparingly. It fits about 20 sleeping on the floor of an upper loft which is accessible by a ladder and there is a detached outhouse 100 yards away. Definitely an upgrade from a tent, but not a lux AMC hut. You can make reservations online or walk in and pay based on availability. There are two Harvard Cabins, so make sure you book the right one.

Would usually bring my USCSA Team up here on President's Day Weekend in February. We'd drive up from my parent's farm in South Newfane, VT (after having driven up on Friday evening from campus in Amherst, MA) up to Wildcat Mountain early on Saturday morning and get there for 8:30am opening and Ski/Board recreationally all day and then stay overnight from Saturday to Sunday at Joe Dodge Lodge at Pinkham Notch and then hike up to Tuckerman's Ravine and do Left Gully team endurance training for the majority of the day on Sunday. It was REALLY GOOD conditioning training for USCSA Nationals, especially if it was a Western resort hosted year. Even if it was an Eastern resort hosting Nationals, it was still EXCELLENT for strength/endurance training. We'd then hike down to Harvard Cabin after Tu

Backcountry cabin operating in the winter months. Stove and pans are available for cooking meals. The caretaker really makes you feel at home and there are always interesting people there to talk to.

This is Harvard Cabin on Mt Washington in Tuckerman Ravine operated by the Harvard Mountaineering Committee. It is NOT located in Jackson, NH and is not affiliated with the AMC Harvard Cabin open year round that is on Rte 16 in Jackson, NH six miles south of the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center.

We made our home for the night just beyond the lovely little, cozy warm cabin.
