Nothing gives an established small town charm and gravitas like an old, brick/stone library and the Goodrich did not disappoint! The lovely 1890s building is well-maintained inside and out. I enjoyed how so many period details remain in tact and functional. The history of the town and region lines the walls and halls, including a variety of town maps from different eras; an absolute delight for us cartophiles! The staff was friendly and helpful. The first level was small, but the rooms and space on the second level were roomy and comfortable to explore the multitude of historical items on display. I couldn’t attest to their literary collections as I didn’t have the opportunity to peruse such. The second level did get quite stuffy on a warm, sunny day; nevertheless, I hope I have an opportu

What a beautiful building and a beautiful library!! First, Newport is a beautiful town right on the lake with spectacular architecture .. but the Goodrich Library is truly the gem of this lovely town!

A lovely space to spend time reading, playing games, enjoying the historic architecture, taxidermy display (!), or other small exhibits. If you are there for more practical purposes, the staff is very helpful; we were able to get a library card in just a few minutes and for a small fee ($10) since we live outside of Newport.

What a cool (and historical) library! We were snowbound in Newport one day and walked around town and the locals recommended we stop in the library. It's one of those gorgeous old library's you only see in movies about small-town America. Kinda reminded me of the library in "It" actually! Lots of friendly staff and upstairs there is an amazing preserved bird collection that is quite impressive to see. There's side rooms with historical memorabilia and a chess board where we spend the afternoon playing a game. Really worth a stop to slow back down and enjoy the simple things!

A classically elegant old building crafted in the finest style of mansions from years gone by. This library has the feel of a victorian reading room in an English castle. In addition to a great book collection there is a small museum of taxidermy animals of different types on the second floor along with meeting rooms and quiet places to read in cozy chairs.
