Golden House

My parents and I were on a nostalgia kick for some local Chinese food where we used to come to when I was a kid. We feasted on a plethora of food - shrimp dumplings, veggie soup, chicken and broccoli, veggie lo mein, salt and pepper shrimp and beef with veggies. Left overs for night 2. Our server, she was so nice and attentive and our yummy food came out piping hot and quick! Came on a weeknight around 5pm without a wait.

⭐️⭐️ 2/5 stars Dinner at Golden House was pretty disappointing. The biggest issue was the sesame chicken — it honestly tasted like chocolate, which was not what I was expecting at all. The flavor was weirdly sweet in a way that didn’t work and completely threw the dish off. The rest of the meal was just okay, nothing memorable enough to make up for it. I was hoping for a lot better based on the name, but I don’t see myself rushing back anytime soon.

I was really disappointed when David Chen in Armonk closed, but I must say, this place is very comparable! Their chicken with sliced eggplant is delicious, and their soups are good, too. Their dumplings are decent but unfortunately, it seems that they use premade wrappers; I miss the homemade, thicker style. Overall great!!

Thrilled to have discovered this local Chinese restaurant. Did takeout - packaging included wontons, fortune cookies and tea as if we were dining there. Very thoughtful. Now to the food - generous portions of protein in each dish, well seasoned not overly salty or greasy. We had chicken and cashews, pork fried rice, boneless ribs, sweet & sour chicken and shrimp pad Thai. Thrilled to find this gem!

We have basically given up on sit down Chinese food. I decided to try to find a good one and took a chance on Golden House a half hour away. Wonton soup and egg roll were solid. Fried rice perfect, boneless spare ribs tasty. Portions were large, service was good and we liked the old school atmosphere. It is not amazing, but given the low bar, it stands out.
