Goat Pen Hostel

I love to see a hostel resurgence, especially in quaint towns like Tracy City. The Goat Pen Hostel is such a vibe. Attached to the “pen” is a local bar and grille, which unfortunately was closed the night we passed through town. My partner & I were the only guests at the hostel that night, but I could imagine on a night the restaurant is open, this is a fun way to interact with others while traveling. The price is higher than I am used to paying for a hostel, but if more people get on board with this type of lodging accommodation, the prices might lower to normal hostel price points. Additionally, dividing the cleaning responsibilities among guests when the hostel is full could help bring the price down. The bed was very comfortable and the overall space is quite impressive. First off, I want to provide clarity and say that I did not stay at the Goat Pen. I want to take a moment to explain why as a solo female traveler I decided not to lodge there. I booked the goat pen hostel because of its location in Tracy City, it’s proximity to the Fiery Gizzard trailhead, the price and looks, but most of all, I booked because on their website there was an alleged review from a solo female traveler claiming a sense of security. So I booked the room and I received an email confirmation where the door code for the front door and the door code for my room were exactly the same. At that point, I sent a response asking how that works from a security perspective. Maybe everyone gets a different front door code? Unfortunately, I never got a response.
