Follia

Follia is a solid 2.5-3 stars. I wanted to love Follia in Lake Forest, especially with all the buzz around it being a “fine dining Italian restaurant”. Inside, the setting is exquisite and the service was pleasant, but the food quality and portion sizes really missed the mark for the high prices charged. I understand that fine dining often means smaller, well-crafted plates, but there’s a fine line between elegant portions and barely-there servings. My entrée looked lovely but left me still hungry, and the overall experience didn’t feel balanced for what you pay. For a restaurant positioned as upscale Italian dining, I expected flavors that wowed and portions that felt thoughtful, not skimpy. My husband and I enjoyed our fourth visit to Follia on Friday night. I hate to rate a restaurant after only one visit because I want to try different dishes and see if the service is consistent. I'm happy to say that each meal has been superb. From the serene decor to the perfectly al dente fresh pasta, we enjoyed the entire experience. We love the atmosphere, although we can't wait for the outdoor patio to open again for summer. Kudos to Chef Bruno and his attentive staff!

Excellent Italian restaurant in downtown Lake Forest. We have been there multiple times since it opened and have tried several dishes on the menu including the excellent spaghetti carbonara and pinsa flatbread which reminds us of the dishes we have enjoyed in Milan. The service is very attentive as well. We had the opportunity to meet with Chef Bruno and hear about his inspiring efforts to give back to the community. We will be going back!

From the moment you walk into Follia, you know it’s something special. The atmosphere is elegant yet welcoming, making it perfect for a date night, special evening out or a girls night out in Lake Forest. My husband and I had an outstanding night. The handmade pasta is perfectly al dente, fresh, and beautifully sauced, and the menu elevates classic Italian dishes with thoughtful, refined touches. Service is attentive and knowledgeable without feeling rushed. Come hungry you’ll leave happy and very full. Highly recommend!

What a “Meraviglioso” Italian restaurant! Every little detail was thought through. From the bar’s light fixture to the beautiful patio, and the amazing food from the kitchen to spacious area around the tables. That’s right! You’ll not feel claustrophobic in here! The food was delectable and I’m glad we decided to share our dishes among the table, so we could have a little taste of everything.
