El Tapatio

I've held off reviewing this restaurant a long time. Every few years I go back to check. I kept telling myself, "one day they will surprise you." As of my last visit, I conclude the restaurant and it's clientele are happy the way it is--not good. Aside from the beautiful wooden tables and benches, everything about this place is below average in every way; the food is overly greasy and heavy, food prep and texture are minimal, and everything is utterly lacking in nuance and flavor. From the massively over peppered salsa to the heavy thick greasy corn chips, to the unseasoned guacamole, and bland rice and beans. The service was really good. They were friendly and very attentive. I've been trying to look for a Mexican restaurant that makes really good nachos. I was pretty bummed that the nacho selection was either beef, beans, or both. It would be awesome if they had a create your own nachos thing.

El Tapatio in Okmulgee has become a weekly ritual for us, and for good reason. We’ve worked our way across the menu and honestly, it’s all excellent. But the chicken milanesa? Buddy, that’s the one we keep coming back for. Great food, generous portions, and a staff that’s always friendly and welcoming make it easy to feel at home every visit.

Very mediocre, but good quality. The flour tortillas are not homemade.
