This is not the Dunlap Restaurant I remember from when I lived in Tennessee. In the past, I always enjoyed good food and great service, but today was a very different experience. I ordered a simple meat-and-two to go: a salmon patty with green beans and potato salad. Despite the restaurant being no more than a quarter full, the order took over 45 minutes to prepare. The dining room itself was dingy and dark, with barely half of the lights working. When I finally got home and opened my order, I was met with an unpleasant surprise. The salmon patty looked like a fried cow patty—about an inch and a quarter thick, the size of a small plate, heavily breaded, and cooked well past its prime. It was dry and completely tasteless. The cornbread muffins were dry and rubbery, and the potato salad was

So i tried the dunlap restaurant for the first time....and I got something to say Hands down, our new favorite spot is this sweet little Southern restaurant right here in town. My boyfriend and I went for breakfast yesterday morning, and honeyyyyy… it felt like a warm grandma’s hug wrapped up in biscuits and coffee. We got to sit, sip our coffee slow, eat a good country breakfast, and just be for a minute. No rushing, no feeling like we needed to hurry up and turn the table just peace. And Lord knows we needed that. They made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. Checked on us just enough, not too much, and every time our coffee cups got low, they were right there filling them back up same for everyone else. That kind of hospitality is rare these days. It wasn’t just breakfast

Food was amazing. Best meal we've had on our trip. I had pinto beans, cornbread, fried okra, cole slaw, creamed potatoes (real potatoes and no peelings), husband had smoked chicken and it was divine. Yeast rolls were to die for. Great iced tea too. Reasonably priced. Definitely recommend.

Things they do well: - The food is good diner food. - Staff is friendly. - Prices are ok. Some items are over priced. - Good banana pudding and baked potato salad. - The check is left at the table when the food is delivered. This is nice so the customer isn't "held hostage" waiting for the check when staff are busy. Things they could improve: - Getting food out to the customer faster, the wait for food is exceptionally long on many occasions. - Ensure all food that's supposed to be warm is warm prior to taking it to the customer. 50% of the time at least some of the food on the plate is cold. - If something that was ordered is out of stock, let the customer know right away so the order can be changed in a more timely manner. - Stop over cooking the thin chicken breast. - Clean off the tab

Breakfast or brunch is always awesome. This is a historic restaurant owned and managed by a family. The building itself is older, but that adds to the character and nostalgia. They stay pretty busy. They are worth the wait. They offer a variety of Southern classics. Their biscuits and home fries are homemade. Their chicken is hand battered and seasoned. They have some of the friendliest folks working there. Please be kind and patient if you go on a busy day. This is one of the places that haven’t increased their prices. They are reasonably priced and decent portions.
