Donny's Dogs is a hot dog stand at the Southwest Washington Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the staff who run it are deaf. It’s directly across the street from the post office on Hearthwood. The vinyl banner and table make it look very temporary, like hot dogs at a church picnic. But there’s more to it than meets the eye. The stand has been there for several weeks now. They serve hot dogs, corn dogs, and fried pickles. The hot dogs can be either 6 or 12 inches. I chose a 6-inch Farm Dog, which comes with melted cheese, bacon, jalapeños, onion, and ranch dressing. This is not a quick process—it takes a good 10–15 minutes to finally get the frankfurter you ordered. Mine tasted very good. While I was waiting, I observed that the corn dogs are hand-dipped and look excellent. I wi
When I pulled up I had no idea that this corn dog stand would bring tears to my eyes. A corn dog stand that benefits the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population as a non profit. ❤️ My 2 children are autistic individuals and we are learning ASL in our home to be able to communicate. Feeling like I could step into a world of inclusion, for even a few minutes felt very special and moving. I had one of the best corn dogs in my life and I've never had one made in front of me before! Such a wonderful experience! Don't forget to buy a sticker! ❤️
In a land of division and isolation, where we are broken and so much is motivated by anger and hate, it is so rare to find something specifically designed to bring people together, to make community and foster acceptance. For most people the deaf world is a mystery, we do not see them as they see themselves. We pass by each other like independent cars on a busy road, enclosed and anonymous within our own hardened shells of compliance and fear. This place, of all places a hot dog stand, is actually a little citadel of magic. It is a statement of love and inclusion. It is a stroke of genius embodied in a tent, expressed through a universal language. The language of the humble hotdog. The hotdog is a creation of memories and nostalgia. Almost all of us have hotdogs running somehow through
Saw Donny’s Dogs as we were leaving the post office near Hearthwood & 1st Street today, so had to give it a try. The 12” dogs were HUGE with flavor to match! By the time we thought about taking a photo, there were no dogs left. I can highly recommend the Seattle Dog (remember to grab some napkins)! Do yourself a favor and stop by.
Try their fried pickles if that's your thing! They are made with the corn dog breading and the ranch is perfect too. Great service 👏🏽
