Food is wonderful & drinks are delish, and allow for longer dining time. The food is worth the wait and the manager checks in on tables frequently which is comforting. Highly recommend the grape leaves appetizer, chicken picatta, and pork marsala.
I am blown away with how "meh" of an experience that my partner and I had. We love the Greek/Mediterranean food that RVA has to offer, and we wanted to try a new spot so I booked us a reservation 2.5 weeks in advance. Our waitress was stellar, but the food did not justify the price. After eating here and reading reviews, a common complaint was of the calamari being rubbery - which it was. My partners' main dish looked..boiled? We were given a disclaimer that it came with a lot of beans, which it came with nearly 2 cups of. His side - sauteed artichokes and peas - was predominantly peas, with a few artichokes that tasted canned. Both of his dishes lacked flavor. My whole branzino was okay, but the gigantes were likely canned (texture of beans were so inconsistent, and had a tinned flavor).
I'm Greek. Go to Greece yearly too. Demi's is easily top 3 in RVA. They claim to be 'mediterranean' but yeah, they're Greek. My first time there and it was fantastic. I'm going to keep my review short here or else I'll go back. FOOD: Ordered a little bit of everything. Octopus was well cooked, not rubbery - lots of flavor. Spanakopita was decent with thick dough - not spectacular though. Would pass on it next time for something else. Pastistio was great - just would've preferred a bechamel than a vodka sauce. Shrimp Santorini was a banger and needed a spaghetti to mop it up. The dessert is a Galaktoboureko (mouthful of syllables) - it's kind of like a Portugeuse egg tart with a light cream, sounds weird but is great. SERVICE: Great for a local spot. PRICES: Very reasonable. OVERALL:
A comfortable place in a quiet Northside neighborhood with reasonable prices, good service and a nice little bar area. Nice vegetarian options and generally healthy menu. I especially recommend the thin sliced crispy aubergine appetizer with thyme, sesame seeds, and a drizzle of honey. We will be back!
We had the octupus appetizer, three dips, orecciette (giant), and whole fish. Everything was delicious. The octopus was the best I've ever had. The service was friendly, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity.
