I had an amazing experience at Della J’s for my lunch. The moment I walked in, the staff was warm and welcoming. The food tasted truly homemade comforting, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The fried chicken was crispy and delicious, the collard greens were yummy, and the black-eyed peas with ham were seasoned just right. I also loved the red velvet waffles with my fried chicken such a perfect combo! The tilapia fillet sandwich was fresh and satisfying, too. Portions are big and absolutely worth every penny. I left happy and full! Definitely one of the best Southern comfort spots in Alexandria.

Visited on Valentine’s Day or a Saturday afternoon. Easy to make a reservation online. We were promptly greeted and checked in and seated. The staff were friendly and we were able to order fairly quickly after being seated. Our server gave great recommendations to patron favorites on the menu. Their sweet tea is really good - sweet mixed well with lemon. There was a special Valentine’s Day menu and drinks and we were given a personalized candy treat after we were finished dining. We had two entrees - beef medallion which was on the special menu - shrimped stuffed with crab, the garden salad, and a slice of sweet potato pound cake. We’ve been loyal fans of Della J’s Delectables since their Springfield days!! This place is the definition of soul food done right. Every single dish is packed with flavor and consistency and no matter how many times we visit, the food is always top-notch. It’s become our go-to sit-down spot, and we genuinely look forward to every meal there. The ambiance is so inviting and comfortable and we love the art. It’s the kind of place where you can unwind, enjoy amazing comfort food, and feel right at home. And we have to give a special shout-out to the staff!! Sidney, our regular server, is FANTASTIC!! I was put in charge of finding a spot for our group, so I turned to TikTok to see what was trending in Alexandria..Della J’s came up with great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and while the service was a bit slow, the food was absolutely worth the wait! We did have one issue where hair was found in a dish, but the staff handled it perfectly—they immediately took it back and remade the entire entree without hesitation. On the downside, the hostess was a bit short/rude with us, though we chose to be patient given she was an older lady. Also, the women’s bathroom had a very persistent, unpleasant odor that several people in our group noticed throughout the visit. Saw a Tiiktoc video advertised was in the area so my client and I stopped. Ordered 1/2 BBQ chicken only because I saw someone's plate as I was seated. Baby the visuals of the other plate enhanced my plate when it came to the table. Presentation was to perfection, enough sauce but not over bearing. I ordered the greens and Mac and cheese. Typical soul food sides, nothing to say ooh la la, but the sweet potato mash tasted like a high end sweet potato pie and the Bbq sauce had a slight hickory flavor. Yes, you could taste the freshness of the chicken. Overall, I would recommend stopping; not just for the food, but great customer care.
