The young man working all alone tonight was amazing. I didn’t get his name, but dark hair and foreign accent. There were probably 20 people in line when we arrived. He served each of them efficiently and with a smile. When we were up to order, the owner decided to show up and take over. Fine, except that when he did, he started berating the young employee for “getting into this situation”. The only situation was the fact that he was left alone with a large volume of customers. We were really turned off by the owner’s behavior.
Not impressed. We bought a Peanut Buster Parfait and a Banana Split. And I paid around $16. That's a lot for 2 icecreams. I didn't think the prices would be that much higher in the OBX than in Harnett County, N.C. But they are high, for what you actually get.The parfait was awful. It was globs of hot fudge with very little icecream. I had to toss it half way through because the few peanuts it had, were sunk in fudge sludge. I initailly wanted something else but they do not carry the same menu items that other Dairy Queens have.
In the interest of full disclosure I know the family that owns this DQ. But the service was excellent and I had my first Blizzard (Reeses) in over a year and it was so delicious! It is conveniently located on Highway 12 in Avon with lots of parking. The DQ itself is located on the 2nd floor but is very easy to get to. My server was a high school sophomore and was wonderful. I wish I had had her work ethic when I was her age. After a day at the beach Dairy Queen is the perfect way to cool off with everyone 's favorite ice cream. It is a family favorite on the Outer Banks. You can't go wrong. Also I tried my friends pineapple shake and it was amazing! Highly recommended.
Place was closed and it was only 8 or 9 pm. The only food they were selling was hotdogs? Had to make a special trip out to go somewhere else. :(
Good food, hard to find a reasonable priced place to eat near the OBX.
