Country Palmer House

Country Palmer House is located on a spectacular ridge just a short distance northeast of Mt. Carroll. I recently spent the night there with an old friend who had been my room-mate at nearby Shimer College over 50 years ago. We made the drive out from Chicago to revisit our old campus, and needed a place to spend the night before returning home the next morning. We had a clean, comfortable, second story room with a spectacular view all the way to the Mississippi, Iowa and beyond. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast the next morning, along with the company of Alan and Joann Palmer, whom we found to be very gracious hosts. I would not hesitate to recommend their B & B to people visiting the area.

I just returned from a WONDERFUL weekend in Mt. Carroll, IL. I booked a trip with Learn Great Foods to tour some local farms. As part of the tour, I stayed at the Country Palmer House. Joann and Allen (the owners) could not have been more welcoming. The house is neat and clean, and the Palmers are friendly and eager to please their guests. It's apparent they have been doing this for quite awhile. Coming from Chicago, I was not quite sure what to expect, but this B&B exceeded my expectations. The most memorable part, however, was the BREAKFAST! I could not believe how much delicious food the Palmer's made for my friend and I. Each thing was better than the thing before. This B & B is charming and comfortable. My husband and I have stayed there year after year when we visit Mt. Carroll for Mayfest (Memorial Day Weekend). The owners are willing to answer all the rural life / farming questions we city slickers come up with. ||Those folks who wrote an uncomplimentary review need to open what sounds like their narrow minds. Hey, you're traveling to learn about new places and people. Embrace the differences and ||get a great night's sleep at the Country Palmer House!

Already visited twice. Such a romantic place with stunning views of Mississippi river valley right outside your windows. Owners are fantastic people that know how to take care of their guests. Very clean and cozy rooms. Will be back soon!

I loved my stay at the Country Palmer House. The owners were very accommodating. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The setting is very peaceful, a great place to relax. The food was incredible. I did not know that I could expect such a delicious breakfast. I found the owners to be kind and genuine - they made the trip very comfortable. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
