My food was delicious. However, I have one suggestion, and an observation. First, back off on the sugar. My beans were sweet, ribs too sweet, the Chinese restaurants around here have taken to adding so much sugar, it doesn’t even taste savory, only sweet. Beef up on the black bean sauce, throw in some hoisin, don’t be afraid to season it. When I go to a Chinese restaurant, I want Chinese food, not Chinese American food. “Chinese” vegetables have practically disappeared off the menu replaced with regular veggies. Where’s the Bok Choi, the bitter melon, the black mushrooms, the closest I can find is a bit of bok choi, bamboo shoots, maybe water chestnuts and that’s it. I don’t want carrots and peas in my fried rice, it’s not right, I want bean sprouts! Ok, back to the review. Good points: ho
No flavor. We both order chicken dishes, both agreed, no seasoning. And worse fried rice we have ever had. And the wonton soup, was just canned broth and dumplings. Very Bland. Very disappointing.
I wanted to make Singapore Mei Fun at home, but did not feel like making the Char Siu (bbq pork) I couldn't find it at any Asian market so I went to a couple Chinese take out places and no one was willing to sell me just the plain BBQ Pork except the Man at Chinese First Wok who was happy to show me two different cuts of it and sell it to me as "BBQ spare ribs" but with no sauce or cooking. I did not get his name but he was so nice and accommodating, just wanted to say thank you!!!!
Gotta say the only disappointing part of ther meal was the generic, flavorless, yellow fried rice. I'd rate it a 3, as it was cooked well, good consistency, no hard pieces, no mushy pieces. Pork egg foo young was a definite 9.5. Perfectly cooked, perfect crispy texture and flavor. The dumplings were also great as was the ginger sauce. I'd rate it an 8.5. It's hard to get a perfect dumpling these days without MSG, but these were fairly close. Overall very happy with the meal.
Looks so delicious, wonton soup, fried rice and fried chicken. They gave free fries and spring rolls yum yum yum
