First off, I would rate China Chef a 4.5, but since I can only do 4 or 5, I defaulted to a 5 because we like going here. The staff is always friendly and quick! We always get the House Egg Rolls. Their egg rolls and crispy and flavorful, especially dipped in the fish sauce. The Pho is also a great go to! The broth is really good and the meats are all tender. They also have a great Vietnamese Egg Roll Salad. Everything tasted fresh and it’s topped with their House Egg Rolls, marinated pork, and fish sauce, which is a perfect blend of flavors. Is it our favorite pho, no. Is it a great place to get a pho fix, absolutely!
The pho was good, but I was a little concerned about cleanliness. The spoons looked quite old and not very clean, and there was some rice stuck on the chopsticks. It made me feel uncomfortable while eating. I believe replacing utensils would really help improve the experience for customers. New pho spoons are very affordable (around $0.99 each at an Asian market), so this could be an easy improvement.
Pho at a Chinese restaurant usually spells disaster. But for China Chef, it was one of the best Pho ive had in a while. The Pho came out hot and steaming with great aroma. Aromatic, balanced flavored where no one seasoning took over. The noodles were a perfect texture, remained the same texture and did not break up as it sat in the broth. My only dislike from the bowl of awesomeness was it did not have tripe and tendon. It was not specified on the menu so fair game but it would of completed the bowl. Salt and pepper squid was very satisfying. Not oily and cooked well. Not as crispy as I would of wanted but overall the salty and peppers came thru very well. Ive had many variations of this dish and it rates around that top 5 for me. Portion size was a tad bit small for the price. Overall, we
Old school vibes, friendly service and really good Pho. I had the regular size house special Pho Dac Biet. Great broth, good flavors, typical sides and sauces, although they do have an extra spicy sauce.
This place has some good food. A lot of folks love their salt & pepper shrimp. Honestly, this place is a hit or miss. Just this year, I dined in, ordered their pho, and it was hot to the touch, flavorful, and fresh. Another time, it was luke warm, sour, and flavorless. Their stir fry chicken options are good. Crunchy, crispy. Their service can be very good and, at times, very slow. Expect maybe 20 minutes or more for your food on a busy day (not full house). This is through 5+ years of coming here. I still eat here once in a while. I wouldn't recommend ordering pho to go though. Best you eat it there.
