Did one know that May 5 is National Hoagie Day? A hoagie is a bread roll sandwich piled high with deli meats, cheese, fixings, and dressing, and is usually at least six inches long. The term ‘hoagie’ is most commonly used in Philadelphia and South Jersey. They are usually served cold because of their association with Italian American culture. Located on Lafayette Avenue in Hawthorne, this iconic establishment is an award-winning sandwich shop where locals know it for their large and filling sandwiches. Upon entering Bogie’s Hoagies & Deli, my partner and I knew right away this was going to be a nice lunch spot as we were greeted by the staff and a huge deli selection menu. Besides sandwiches, they have pizza cooked inside a brick oven. We decided on the Meatball Marinara and Honey Turk
Very clean and comfortable place. Staff is friendly and very helpful. The sandwiches were huge and delicious. The meats were thin sliced and fresh as well as the salad and tomatoes. Bread was perfect. The chicken cutlet sandwich was delicious. My father in law had a meatball sandwich and it looked delicious too. Pizza looked so good but I’m going to have to go back another day for that. I don’t think the prices were bad for the amount of food we received. Overall Amazing spot just wished they were closer to the city but well worth the drive.
Macaroni salad needs a complete re-do. Terrible. Decent sized sangs, however, the bread is down right awful. Better bread would transform this place. 4.5? Come awn now.
Unfortunately disappointed. I really wanted to like this place. It was $30 for a sandwich with barely any cheese or condiments. (Yet I paid extra for them) The wrapper and cheese were disintegrating into each other, as it was all laid on top of the sandwich after the fact. When I asked the woman for a refund, she became infuriated. Almost as furious as I was when I realized I could’ve gotten a better cheesesteak from Wawa for half the price.
An iconic sandwich shop reinvented. Boagie’s is a Hawthorne staple and the go-to for a stellar lunch. I had the broccoli rabe chicken cutlet with provolone and spicy mayo. The bread is thinner than the old Boagies and the sandwiches not as “loaded” and you’re paying more than you used to but make no mistake…this sandwich will spark your tastebuds and leave you “mmm”ing until the last bite.
