Blue Ribbon Sushi is one of those New York institutions that manages to feel both timeless and deeply personal, no matter the location. Each outpost has its own character. We’ve long been regulars at the original SoHo spot, but a recent visit to the West Village location on Downing Street surprised us with how intimate and quietly charming it felt. The evening captured a very New York kind of magic. We fell into easy conversation with the couple seated next to us, trading recommendations over the neighborhood’s best sushi and sake spots. It was a reminder of why Blue Ribbon has endured. It’s not just the fish—though it’s always excellent—it’s the atmosphere: more warm than precious, convivial without trying too hard. Founded in 1995 on Sullivan Street by brothers Bruce and Eric Bromberg
The omakase was fresh and delicious, the chef’s menu was creative and inventive. We really had a great time there. The host was very knowledgeable and was able to explain the origin of each dish. We’ve been there twice already and the menu is seasonal. Highly recommend!
Ueki, nestled in the West Village, has become my favorite omakase experience in New York. The subdued ambiance with its dim lighting creates an understated, intimate setting, making it suitable for a casual yet subtly high-end dining experience. There are 12-seats. I believe 8 around the bar. The chefs and Jack are all very friendly and provide excellent service, a friendly smile always, and fun experience. letting you enjoy the atmosphere, food, and experiennce while providing you with any knowledge you require. Not much to be added here! Moving on to the food - it's consistently delicious and yet constantly improving. The sushi assortment is skillfully prepared, showcasing a reliable standard of freshness. Each dish is thoughtfully executed with its unique differences in the sushi's co
Amazing new spot in the west village for omakase! The food was delicious, the staff was kind and the service was great. I loved how excited the staff was to tell the story of each dish, it was clear how much love and attention went into every detail, from the menu to the decor…perfect. I highly recommend a visit and looking forward to going back soon!
Have been to many omakase restaurants and I have to say every course and flavor I was served at this location was not only unique but delicious! 10/10 recommend. I also loved that not only did I receive high end food and service but the intimate atmosphere was a new and perfected feel for food of this caliber.
