Berkeley County Library - Daniel Island

Very disappointed in this library branch. We just moved to the area and were excited to join the library as we loved our library program in our previous town. My young son was playing in the playhouse of the children’s side of the library, no one was in this library. A gentleman named Tim Boyle, came over and asked that he keep it down. He also told me it is never too soon to teach them how to use their voice. He does not have a right to tell me how to teach my son. In our old library, the children’s side was always a bit louder because there were actually children there using it. I see now why no one is at this library. I can respect the rules of the library but a child playing in the children’s section, not causing a disturbance to anyone should not be treated this way. Especially when

The Best Staff. Tim and his People care for everyone. I go there regularly and it's like going to my Favorite Bar. Plus, it's not a "small" library, you just don't have big enough Aspirations.

It ended up ok but it started out pretty bad. I have loved libraries and librarians since I was a child. I've never hesitated to ask for book recommendations. Today when I asked for suggestions for my 8 year old one of the ladies helped by asking what kind of books she likes the other chided me for speaking too quietly. They did not recommend a single book. I truly felt bad so we left. I did call back to say I was disappointed by the experience. The librarian I spoke to was very kind and helpful. She chose some books for me to pick up.

Smallest library I've ever been in, but very nice none the less. I wish the selection was wider, but I do enjoy studying at one of the tables inside with my own books/work.

A small facility; the library doesn't accurately reflect the Daniel Island affluent community. It is not equipped with the tools necessary to engage young learners.
