Beautiful South by Kwei Fei

Walking downtown I’ve passed by this restaurant a number of times and at first glance looking through the windows I thought it was a Asian place for a quick bite to eat on the go. I was wrong. Don’t let the window view from the street of the kitchen area deceive you. Inside is a full sit down restaurant and bar. We saw a reservation and our table was ready and waiting for us when we arrived. The waitress explained the menu and specials. Food is meant to be shared by the table. We started we’d cocktails. They have a nice selection on their cocktail menu and absolutely LOVED the once I got; The Tyger with ginger bourbon, apricot, lemon, cinnamon, and cashew orgeat. Had the most amazing meal at Beautiful South! You know when you enter the front door and the first thing you see is ribs hanging in the front kitchen window that you are in the right place. Our server Damien was incredibly personable and kind and made sure our food came out as hot and fast as possible. The ginger chicken dish blew us away and was one of our favorite dishes of the night! You cannot go wrong with any of their dishes though! All were incredible!

My first time going and it was just to experience happy hour. I went pretty early and I must say I love the ambiance with the dim lighting and it is beautifully decorated. The staff was very friendly and the happy hour menu is small but it has some pretty good item selections. I got the crab ragoon and the scallion oil noodles. Two dumplings are included with your drink selection, so that was pretty cool. All in all I enjoyed everything I got and I will be back to try some entrees.

This place is 10/10 each time I go. The atmosphere and the overall vibe of the place complement the amazing food just perfectly. I have been able to get seated early for my reservation or was able to enjoy time at the bar with the happy hour cocktail each time I have visited. All of the staff are personable and easy to chat with if you need. My favorite dishes are the scallion oil noodles with the cucumbers (they are so crunchy every time) with their Kosmos to drink.

Wow! Even just walking in the ambiance and lighting are perfect. The menu selections- it was hard to pick guaranteeing a second visit to try what we didn’t get. Lots of vegan options and fun drinks. Definitely try the sticky rice dumplings and the general tsos tofu, it was really yum! Definitely will be back.
