Aunt Berta's Kitchen of Hockessin

My friend and I tried Aunt Berta’s after seeing so many great reviews. We were surprised that on a Saturday night we were the only table dining in, with just one takeout order. The upside was a quiet experience, and the staff was extremely friendly and attentive—definitely 5-star service. We ordered the mix-and-match plates and tried the spicy turkey wing, pork ribs, fried whiting, salmon cake, mac and cheese, greens, cabbage, candied yams, and green beans with potatoes. The cabbage was the standout and very flavorful. The greens were good but could’ve been cooked a bit longer. The whiting, turkey wing (with a slightly spicy, unique sauce), and ribs were solid. The salmon cake had great flavor, but the texture was very mushy. The mac and cheese, candied yams, and green beans were average.

Nice place, glad we stumbled up on it! Nice pleasant staff appreciated the manager Edwin’s attention to detail. Ordered the combination meals; fried chicken and ribs and turkey wings and pigs feet both with choice of sides plenty of food! Definitely will be back and bringing our friends and family.

My 3rd visit was day before Thanksgiving. I placed a few orders in advance. The Thanksgiving platter had so much food I had to break it down to a smaller plate for my grandmother. My husband and I ate the remaining food for dinner. Great value for the price!! I didn’t feel like baking this year and ordered a whole sweet potato pie! Very good! Way better than ShopRite or any or other store brought. Feels like it was baked at home. Here’s a pic (minus a slice.. lol) Great service! They reviewed each item I had and even walked it to my car! Such a gem in Hockessin! Nice to have a good southern comfort option without driving far.

The food was very good. My son and I enjoyed our food so much. My mom had passed on 11 years ago and she always fried fish. This meal bought fish from my mom memories ❤️. Thank you definitely will be going back for more😊 also I told my friend how good the food is.

Food was excellent. Huge portions. Friendly staff. Soul rolls appetizer was unique and tasty. Fried chicken brought back memories of family meals. Kitchen was a little loud. Big dessert offering. Definitely worth checking out.
