Side Notes/Mini Review- Rating is for the area (if this were in the East Village, for instance, it would be closer to a 3.) Apparently, the other location is known for Sizzling Steak, so possibly get that. Good Niu Rou Mian/Beef Noodle Soup. Tasty Pork Thick Soup/Rou Geng. Would not recommend Lu Ro Fan/Minced Pork Over Rice. Expect a wait as it gets crowded. This is the second location of this Taiwanese spot, with the other inside the generically named New York Food Court in Flushing. The place is primarily takeout, though there are a handful of tables, and it's been pretty crowded every time I've passed by. They have a rewards program, and I've been there three times so far, and I'm a bit hesitant to go back. In terms of service, they almost dropped my bag the first time, but they've bee
I’d recommend calling ahead so your order is ready when you arrive — I ended up waiting about 25 minutes for the beef noodle soup and fried squid. I was actually the only person there for the first 15 minutes, yet two people who ordered after me received their food before I did. I suspect the beef noodle soup simply takes longer to prepare, as I overheard the cook mention something along those lines. That said, the food was very good. The beef noodle soup noodles were perfectly cooked, not overdone, and the broth was about as close to what you’d get in Taiwan as you can find in the States. The fried squid was very, very good as well — even though it was a little bit cold, which I assume was because it was waiting on the beef noodle soup. I’ve also had the popcorn chicken, and both it and
Tried the Double Combo (salt & pepper chicken with sweet potato fries and plum powder) and it was excellent! The flavors brought back the Taiwanese taste I’ve been missing.
The salt and pepper squid was nicely flavored and fried perfectly without making it chewy. The picked cabbage had a nice sweet and sour balance. The Taiwanese sausage had the perfect flavor and nice amount of skin pop. The Char siu bao was different from what I'm used to but still rather tasty. The staff was pretty nice and in a quaint little space with a good music selection. The only reason I had to wait for a table was because there was a rude lady that set up camp in the small shop, watching whatever on her phone and not thinking about other customers.
Pork thick soup is very tasty and authentic. We also like dry noodles and beef noodle soup. The place was packed by noon. Probably not ideal for dine in if your party is 2 or more people. Perfect for take out or to eat alone in the store by the bar. Will definitely try other dishes when I am in the area next time.
