I visited Yak & Yeti Himalayan Restaurant, on Spenard, not the café on West Northern Lights. There were two of us and we were welcomed warmly on arrival. We ate in for dinner. The dining room was small and no-frills, with around a dozen tables. Service was friendly and straightforward. I had the Kalimpong Shapta with tingmos and a mango lassi. The Shapta pork was braised long and low, tender and well rendered, cooked with onion and peppers, giving rich savoury flavours and layered spice, a hearty, warming dish. The tingmos were soft, steamed and doughy, good for wiping up the sauce and pairing with bites of pork. Portions were filling. The lassi was thick and smooth, not overly sweet, with fruity mango and enough yoghurt to keep it gluggable and fresh rather than heavy. Service was promp
I came here for dinner and there was no one else in the restaurant, but everyone else is missing out by not coming here! I am obsessed with momos, and the Yak and Yeti definitely did not disappoint! I got the entree of momos, garlic naan and some lamb appetizer to split with my dad (sorry I have early onset dementia and can’t remember the name!) and it was the perfect portion size because we both finished everything and were the perfect level of fullness. I’ve had momos before, but this restaurant has a signature sauce that they serve it with that makes them to die for! I could probably drink the sauce by itself! The naan was addicting, and not too much of a strong garlic taste. Everything was warm and delicious, served with tamarind and (cucumber?) chutney. I’m not sure but one of the chu
This is not the place if you are looking for authentic north Indian flavor. The food was pretty bland, kinda americanized. We had ordered tandoori mushrooms, tandoori lamb and chingmo for appetizer. All the very bland. For the main course we got two entrees - chole and one more. Those were not good as well. We ended with their tea which was overly sweet.
This is our favorite spot in Anchorage. Once you go, you will be craving it, often. Good, hot, affordable, flavorful, authentic eats for everyone- Veg, GF, etc! My wife and I love sharing an app and naan, before the heaping entree of momos. So happy we found this place.
Food was great, service was great. Definitely would go back again.
